Lakeland Solar & Storage was developed, designed and completed by Conergy and is an Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) funded project. The project was an Australian-first and designed to consistently feed renewable energy into the grid and demonstrate the capability of large-scale solar coupled with storage to improve future power quality and supply.
The facility is located off the Mulligan Highway at Lakeland in Far North Queensland and consists of a 13MW solar array, 1.4MW/5.3MWh of lithium-ion battery storage and a smart controller that combined creates a consistent power supply, even during times of cloud cover.
The project includes a Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) that continues to provide commercial data on battery testing modes and future energy set-up scenarios. The KSP partners include ARENA, AEMO, BHP, Ergon Energy and Origin Energy.
